I've decided to call this year's Art Basel offerings 'The Year of Charlie Lee'. This spring, after attending the opening of my solo booth at Art Market, Charlie pulled me aside and asked if I would consider creating portraits of him and his two good friends Joe and Roland, who are Vietnam Veterans and served with Charlie. We spent a wonderful afternoon drinking Budweiser, chatting and shooting reference images.

When Evan Lurie Gallery called me this fall to ask if I would consider participating in a Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser this year at Art Basel Miami, I immediately knew what I was going to create.

Both drawings will be on view with Evan Lurie Gallery at Scope, booth E17. Even more exciting is the fact that Charlie Lee himself will be in attendance at the VIP opening on Tuesday night (4pm-8pm) and 20% of the proceeds of the drawing of Charlie will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

In addition to showing two life-size works at Scope, will also be showing two brand new drawings with Hashimoto Contemporary at Context (booth C237).

I met Josephine in Afton, OK while exploring along Route 66. Josephine lives in a converted motel along the historic byway, and when I stopped to ask her if she would mind me taking a photograph of the decaying art-deco sign in her front yard, we ended up chatting for almost an hour about life, art and living in a town that the world has forgotten about. She is also an artist, and after much deliberation, honored me by allowing me to make a portrait of her.

If you are interested in inquiring about any of the works, please reach out and I will connect you with the appropriate gallery. Further info about the fairs can be found below.
